April: Compassionate Listening

Wednesday, April 24
6:30-8:30 PM
Tibet House, NYC

Now In-Person and on Zoom
(And yes, recordings are available!)

This month we explore how Buddhist compassion practices can help us listen with open hearts. Despite living in an age of constant connectivity, our ability to relate to each other seems more fraught than ever before. Through the prism of the internet and social media, communication can easily become distorted, leaving us feeling as though we’re all living in separate, unbridgeable realities. Join us as we explore practical ways to open to ourselves and others.

Stephen Dydo
We’re thrilled to host Stephen Dydo. Stephen will speak about and play the qin, the beautiful and revered instrument of Chinese scholars and meditators. Read more about the qin here.

ABOUT DHARMA FRIENDS

We started DHARMA FRIENDS as a way to re-establish and invigorate NYC’s meditation community.

The pandemic, combined with increasing rents, hit NYC meditation centers hard. In the past few years, iconic institutions and successful start-ups alike have shuttered their doors. Zoom filled the void, but it also created one. We started Dharma Friends to chart a new path forward.

DHARMA FRIENDS weaves together Tibetan Buddhist-Inspired Dharma, art, music, embodiment, and community. We strive to honor tradition while also creating space for the Dharma to evolve and flourish here in the West.

We think that creating community is a radical and meaningful act. We hope you’ll join us to ensure that accessible, donation-based gatherings stick around and thrive.

For participants ages 18-35, Dharma Friends is generously sponsored by Dharma Gates. Dharma Gates is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to opening pathways into formal meditation practice for young adults. Working to eliminate conceptual, logistical, and financial barriers to practice, Dharma Gates offers by-donation multi-day retreats, online programs, sangha, and advising. SEEKING ADDITIONAL SPONSORSHIP

In an effort to be both accessible and sustainable, Dharma Friends is actively seeking financial and media sponsorship, as well as volunteers. We are particularly interested in outreach and support for BIPOC, LGTBQ, single parents, and those working in the arts, activism and care-giving communities.
